BAD LINK REPORTING POLICY
AT WWW.ZYRA.ORG.UK

Bad links are not just "broken links", they are hijacked links! You need to report them.

This website has many thousands of links to places around the world. These links are added in good faith and are there to help. However, occasionally cybersquatters hijack the genuine domain that has been linked to and put something entirely pernicious there. So, for example a good cause has been linked-to and then later the domain is hijacked by a cybersquatter and the site becomes a porn site or a stupid splat-advertising site.

DON'T LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT!

If you find any Bad Links, that is, links which go to places which aren't what they should be, it's important that you tell us about it so this can be corrected. Unlike open links (dead links that go nowhere), cybersquatted links are usually dealt with within minutes of the e-mail report arriving, although this can take longer because of offline time.

Why BAD LINKS are so "BAD":

Bad links detract from the quality of the site and damage the safe reputation that the site has. Also, bad links support the evil of cybersquatting and allow villainy to prosper.

Extra point about eliminating hijacked domains from the Internet:

If you find a website's domain has been hijacked by cybersquatters, it may be that many honest sites still link to it. If you feel like crusading against this treachery, one of the techniques worth knowing about is to go to www.google.com and in the "Advanced Search" do a search for all sites that LINK TO the offending domain (This is done by searches such as link:www.totalscumbagbastardcybserquatters.com). Then visit some of the link cuckoo-afflicted sites and report the bad link. The people who run the sites who you warn will often thank you heartily for your good work!

Generally, a bad link reported here will result in the page concerned being checked in its entirety for any other bad links. That's why some of the pages say "last verified <DATE>".

If you know of any bad links at this site, please report them! e-mail

Yes, we are aware of link checkers (see Internet Services), and thanks to everyone who has mentioned this. However "Bad links" require more checking.

Update: Now that Google has gone bad we are looking for alternative search engines which offer this link:[site] feature.
