Some helpful information about the 10 megapixel camera

To get a non-technical first-hand account of what sort of thing we're talking about, have a look at my review about the Canon EOS350D. Most of what I'm saying about the EOS350D is also true for the EOS400D, except the EOS400D is better in various ways, most notably being 10 megapixels instead of 8 megapixels. Even 8 megapixels is probably better than your eyes!

And now I'll quote and annotate some EOS400D information which I've acquired from Jessops the famous camera shop:

"As well as the EOS Integrated Cleaning System, the EOS 400D incorporates a number of developments over the EOS 350D. Resolution increases from 8.0 to 10.1 Megapixels, using the superior hi-sensitivity, hi-speed, low-noise CMOS technology.

At nearly twice the size of the EOS 350D display, the 2.5" hi-resolution LCD is bright and displays all of key shooting and user interface information along with image playback. The AF system expands from 7 to 9-point, with a highly sensitive f/2.8 centre point for exceptional performance in low light. Even with the image resolution increase, maximum frame burst almost doubles from 14 to 27 large JPEGs and from 5 to 10 RAW.

Jessops camera shopNow if you're impressed with this and you'd like to buy a Canon EOS400D, you'll be pleased to know that Jessops can get you one for delivery "the next working day". Does that sound tempting?

These Digital SLR cameras don't live forever but at least they can say "I have lived!". When I bought my EOS350D Camerait was just out and was the latest thing and it cost me just over 800 (including lens, 1Gb compact flash card, and a 3 year accidental damage insurance policy). At the time of writing this, the EOS400D is the latest thing, and was listed at 619 (including lens, but you should add the cost of a CF card and optional insurance). During the year and seven months when the EOS350D was the latest thing, I've taken over five thousand photos. That is good value! I wish you luck and hope that you manage to take at least five thousand photos before the EOS450D is released!

Update 2008/04: The Canon EOS 450D is now released. Initial launch price 600 at Jessops

More about Canon EOS cameras //// Visit Jessops to see about buying your camera //// Camera Shops //// Get 10% discount off the CF memory card, tripod, etc (that's a special co-branded discount code at Zyra's website. includes equipment, accessories, etc but not the digital SLR itself).

Here's a special Quick-Link so you can get the Canon EOS 400D with the lens included: EOS 400D at Jessops (don't forget to quote the discount code summer20 to get 20 off) - again, I'm concerned about these links. Are they still valid?

Good news: Canon now have a dedicated page at this site! This should help to promote the Canon 5D Mk III and other twenty megapixel cameras!
