Football Pools have offered the chance for the average person to become miraculously rich since long before The Lottery. Before it was "Oh if only I won The Lottery" it used to be "Oh if only I won The Football Pools" as a heartfelt wish for personal wealth and the consequential freedom from the curse of having to go to work.

Football Pools still exist and still work at making people rich, but instead of choosing six numbers and hoping they are the same as the ones that the random number machine picks, with football pools you try to predict the results of football matches and in particular you select which of the games are going to be a DRAW. You pay a small entry fee and send your prediction form in, marked with an X against each predicted score-draw. Then when the football results are announced you watch intently and hope you have won. Classically, if you had placed 8 draws with an X on the form and there were only 8 football matches that were a score draw, you would win over a million pounds.

Incidentally, the reason why they are called "football pools" is not because of the types of expensive things winners would choose to spend their winnings on, because the entry fee money is all pooled and the prize money is a share of that total amount.

Of course there is no guarantee of winning the pools if you have a go. However, if you never enter, you are guaranteed to never win the pools.

If you'd like to have a try, there are some useful links on this page. Good luck!

Some of the things about Football Pools are similar to those of The Lottery. For example, What If You Won? You would be rich, but how would you cope? What would you choose to do? It's interesting and worth thinking about in advance, even before you have a go and have a chance of winning.
