Some of the insurance companies in their pet insurance will only insure cats and dogs, but some will insure other animals too. It's best to shop around. Keeping an animal has expenses in addition to the food and other obvious everyday costs. The other expenses are things such as vets bills, which appear "unexpectedly". Pet insurance covers such expenses, and is like private medical insurance for pets, but as well as covering the vets bills, some of the pet insurance on offer also covers the cost of advertising to help to find the pet if lost, or even covering for looking after the pet if the owner is taken ill! It's also worth mentioning that insurance companies are much more keen to insure an animal that's young and in good health than they are to insure an aged pet that they consider is a "bad risk". Humans had better watch out, as soon they'll be considered that way too! Still, it is business.
