NITROGEN CHEMISTRY
Following a request for more information and links about the chemistry of nitrogen, here is some stuff to be going on with:
Nitrogen compounds include NITROUS OXIDE (N2O) which is laughing gas, a curious substance known for its anaesthetic/euphoric properties, (it was even illegal in some places!). Nitrous Oxide is also used for a turbo-boost type of effect to make fast cars go even faster for a quick burst.
Nitric Oxide is a poisonous gas and not the same thing at all!
Nitric Acid is strong stuff which dissolves most metals and can soon get limescale off toilets, baths, etc and will sometimes dissolve the toilet/bath etc too.
Nitrogen in various organic forms plays a major part in biochemistry!
Nitroglycerine is a compound with three Nitrogen-Oxygen groups hanging on a Glycerol molecule. This isn't very stable so has a notorious tendency to go BANG!
