Search Engines are a way of finding things you request on the Internet, or, failing that, finding loads of other things you will get interested in on the Internet.
Another idea is looking things up in alphabetical order * (especially shops!)

Having trouble with search engines? Here's the problems explored more in Problems with Search Engines ! For an illustrative example see The Mystery of Stamp Demon
Another problem with some search engines is the mistaken time-based bias versus pages. What should happen is that the older a page is, the more favourably it should be is considered in searches. What actually happens is the opposite; there is an ageist prejudice against pages which are older than 1 year. A bias in favour of temporary stuff is not going to favour anything except news. For news, yes there is an excuse. For knowledge, no, the bias makes nonsense.
Trying to find a person somewhere in the world? Good luck on the search engines, and remember that there is a knack to using search engines which isn't obvious. But if you need to find someone and you aren't getting anywhere with this, how about trying People-Finder?
A while ago there was Gobango but that has now gone!
