TIMBUKTU. A place, quoted as archetypal of a place far away, exotic, remote, a long where from the ordinary world. But the thing about Timbuktu is, it actually exists. It's in Mali, in West Africa, a town on the edge of the Sahara Desert, near the river Niger, and with a long history of being an interesting place. Most times people in Westernised culture mention "Timbuktu", as in "It's not here it's in Timbuktu" they have no idea about the place at all!

Note: There are other things called "Timbuktu", so if you search on a search engine, you'll find a lot of stuff that's got very little to do with the place!
The picture? That's not Timbuktu! No, that's Manchester! We haven't got a picture of Timbuktu yet!
