- If you’ve got an office with a hundred computers, you only need to get ONE copy of Linux and you can have a perfectly legal software system running on all of the machines. This could save a great deal of money.
- By having Linux you can save a lot of money by avoiding the expense caused by using bugridden software. I’m not saying Linux is bug-free, but at least the people who make it care about the quality of it and usually get it right, and also as it’s well-written then if there are problems then it IS POSSIBLE to sort it out!
- You can now get business software for Linux, a good starting point for which is StarOffice 5.1 by SUN, which not only runs on Linux but also makes conversion to Linux to be made easier by the multi-platform nature of the software which allows parallel running with previously existing operating systems. A penguin? Many sites will tell you about Tux the Linux penguin, but for a long time there have been places whose symbol is a penguin, for example, famously (right), Penguin Books
Linux is pronounced Lin/Ux, according to Linus Torvalds, who invented it. It’s sometimes pronounced "Lynux", which is fair enough, I mean, it’s open source, so you can pronounce it how you like. But remember that its inventor pronounces it "Linux".
